Speaking at the recent Cybertech Conference, former Waze CEO Noam Bardin voiced strong confidence in Israel\u2019s ability to evolve from a “startup nation” into a producer of global tech giants. He described the current moment as a \u201chistoric turning point.\u201d<\/p>\n

We knew how to build amazing tech\u2014but not products, not companies, not businesses,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n \u201cToday, I believe we lead the world in our ability to quickly find product-market fit in an innovative, cost-effective way. No company in Silicon Valley can match an Israeli team when it comes to building products.\u201d<\/p>\n Laying the Groundwork for Growth<\/strong> Israel\u2019s Strength\u2014and Its Challenge<\/strong> \u201cWe\u2019re phenomenal tacticians\u2014that\u2019s what enables us to reach product-market fit so fast,\u201d he said. \u201cBut it also holds us back. We often lose to Silicon Valley competitors in sales and scaling, even when our products are better.\u201d<\/p>\n The second challenge lies in Israel\u2019s own workplace culture. \u201cOur culture is very flat and direct\u2014it\u2019s well-suited to the lean startup model,\u201d Bardin explained. \u201cBut once you\u2019ve reached product-market fit, it becomes a liability. It makes it harder to recruit top global talent. \nBardin\u2019s vision stands in contrast to the traditional view of Israel\u2019s tech ecosystem\u2014one often defined by small startups and quick exits.<\/p>\n
\nBardin believes the next step is a shift from a product-oriented ecosystem to a business-oriented one. \u201cIn the past, being a successful entrepreneur meant selling your company quickly,\u201d he said. \u201cToday, the ecosystem is full of founders who want to build large-scale companies. That drive is the foundation for real change.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nStill, Bardin identifies two key obstacles: a lack of strategic thinking, and an organizational culture that isn\u2019t always aligned with global growth.<\/p>\n
