Gen. (res.) Amir Baram, former Deputy Chief of Staff of the IDF, as the new Director General of the Ministry of Defense. Baram is expected to officially take up the position tomorrow following a formal handover.<\/p>\n<p>Defense Minister Katz welcomed the appointment, saying:<br \/>\n&#8220;I have decided to appoint Amir Baram as Director General of the Ministry of Defense. He is an outstanding commander and warrior who has dedicated his life to Israel\u2019s security. At a time when our defense establishment is facing significant challenges, Baram will make a vital contribution to strengthening the IDF and ensuring its operational success.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>37 years of operational experience<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Baram (55) is regarded as one of the most seasoned and influential officers in the IDF. Among his key roles: Commander of the Paratroopers Reconnaissance Unit, Commander of the Paratroopers Brigade, head of Division 98 and Division 91, Commander of the Northern Corps, and Head of the Northern Command. In his most recent position, he played a key role in managing critical IDF procurement programs and was involved in budgetary decisions and international defense cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>Baram commented after the decision:<br \/>\n&#8220;I consider this role a great honor and a tremendous responsibility to continue advancing Israel\u2019s defense. I will continue working with determination to safeguard the security of the State of Israel, in close cooperation with the IDF and the entire defense establishment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Personal background and education<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Baram resides in central Israel, is married, and has three children\u2014two of whom serve in Israel\u2019s security forces. He is a graduate of the IDF Command and Staff College, the Royal College of Defence Studies in London, holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in law from Reichman University, and a master\u2019s degree in international relations from King\u2019s College London.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The government has approved the appointment of Maj.
