{"id":16355,"date":"2025-03-04T13:13:06","date_gmt":"2025-03-04T11:13:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/reganews.co.il\/en\/?p=16355"},"modified":"2025-03-04T13:13:06","modified_gmt":"2025-03-04T11:13:06","slug":"some-good-news-dolphins-return-to-israels-shores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/reganews.co.il\/en\/some-good-news-dolphins-return-to-israels-shores\/","title":{"rendered":"Some Good News: Dolphins Return to Israel&#8217;s Shores"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a series of marine apex predator deaths along Israel\u2019s coastline, a welcome piece of good news has surfaced: during a routine patrol by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority (INPA), three common bottlenose dolphins (<em>Tursiops truncatus<\/em>) were spotted about eight kilometers west of Rishon LeZion\u2019s shores.<\/p>\n<p>Guy Luyan, director of INPA&#8217;s Marine Unit, shared: &#8220;During a patrol about 2.5 miles off Rishon LeZion following a trawler, three dolphins suddenly appeared. These individuals, named &#8220;Hooks&#8221; and &#8220;Shlomi,&#8221; were recognized by comparing images of their dorsal fins with existing data.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The dorsal fin of a dolphin is an excellent identification tool, much like a human fingerprint,&#8221; explained Kim Kobo from the Morris Kahn Marine Research Station. While this particular Mediterranean subpopulation is not classified as endangered, it is important to remember that these are wild animals.
