‘Cyber Defense Week’ kicked off today (Sunday), with the IDF and the National Cyber Directorate conducting an exercise designed to test soldiers’ readiness to counter phishing attacks. As part of the drill, 200,000 text messages were sent from a sender labeled “IIDF” (a slight distortion of IDF), falsely presenting a new IDF application with a hidden malicious link.<\/p>\n

Significant Detection Improvements<\/strong>
\nAccording to the data, 12% of active-duty soldiers clicked on the link. Instead of facing an actual cyber attack, they were redirected to a landing page informing them that the message was part of an exercise, with tips on how to recognize phishing attempts.<\/p>\n

If the numbers seem concerning, the Cyber Agency revealed the results are major progress. In previous drills, 20% of soldiers had clicked on phishing links, proving a significant decrease in those falling for the scam.<\/p>\n

Most soldiers also demonstrated responsibility and vigilance, reporting the suspicious message to the National Cyber Agency\u2019s 119 hotline and warning their peers not to click the link.<\/p>\n

\nSince the outbreak of war, there has been a sharp 70% increase in phishing attacks targeting Israelis, particularly against IDF soldiers. Security officials warn that hackers are employing increasingly sophisticated tactics to deceive users and steal personal information.<\/p>\n

The National Cyber Agency advises extra caution with messages that include:

\n\u2705 Poorly worded or informal text

\n‘Cyber Defense Week’ will take place from February 16\u201320, 2025, featuring a range of activities and events led by the National Cyber Agency. This year, the event is part of the ‘National Month for Online Child Protection’, held annually in February under the initiative of Hotline 105 for Child Online Safety.
