At the conclusion of a confidential Knesset discussion on UNRWA laws, chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Yuli Edelstein, announced today (Monday) that the legislation to close the organization will take effect at the end of the current month. “The law will be implemented. It\u2019s finalized and sealed,” he declared.<\/p>\n

\u201cUNRWA,\u201d Edelstein said, \u201cbeyond being a generator and active participant in terrorism, is also an organization that perpetuates refugeehood. The laws we passed about three months ago, which will take effect at the end of this month, represent a historic change. Removing UNRWA from the equation will finally provide an opportunity to halt the perpetuation of terrorism and initiate a process of de-radicalization in UNRWA\u2019s activity centers. This is the first domino in dismantling Palestinian terrorism and a beacon of hope for a better future.”<\/p>\n

“Under my leadership, The Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee is acting decisively with all relevant entities to ensure the full, real, and meaningful implementation of the law. The committee will show zero tolerance toward any party that fails to fulfill the task assigned to it,” Edelstein emphasized.<\/p>\n

Edelstein added, \u201cWe must remember that the UN, the Palestinians, and other interested parties will use the situation surrounding the UNRWA law to pressure Israel to retreat from implementing it. Let me make it unequivocally clear: the law will be implemented. It\u2019s finalized and sealed. I advise, and even urge, those parties \u2014 rather than perpetuating suffering, find solutions.
